In the beginning…
1840s was a time of great optimism in Singapore. The colonial government believed that Singapore could become a major exporter of spice, palm, oil and coconut.
Hundred of acres of land were offered to ambitious Europeans for the development of platation.
One of them is Charles Carnie
Charles Carnie in 1840s purchased the land and planted more than 4000 Nutmeg trees
