The plague happen in Singapore in the 1850’s
There was a plague where locust destroyed all the plants and trees in Singapore . And from there till 1870s many had to abandon, sell or develop the land that was once plantations.
Many of the Europeans went into insolvency and some decided to either do fruit trees or divide their land into smaller plots and sold .
So the plot of land were subdivided at first and the new owners decided to do grand bungalows
