The person behind the properties

Experience with depth.
Representation with purpose.

A real estate adviser by profession. A collector of Singapore’s stories by instinct.

Simon Monteiro has spent more than three decades working with Singapore real estate, with a focus on conservation shophouses, boutique hotels and distinctive commercial properties. Through Shophouse.com.sg, he works with owners, investors, landlords and occupiers to understand each property’s possibilities.

His curiosity began on childhood visits to Sungei Road with his father. Coins and stamps led to old maps, manuscripts and land deeds—and a lasting interest in the people and decisions behind a building.

Simon entered real estate in 1994 and made his first shophouse sale on Spottiswoode Road. Today, that collector’s eye sits alongside practical experience in acquisition, leasing, negotiation and owner representation.

Understanding the history.
Discovering the possibilities.

Market knowledge + documented history

Two perspectives.
One considered decision.

Simon collaborates with architectural historian and author Dr Julian Davison, his Provenance Partner. Simon brings market judgement and transaction experience; Julian brings archival research, architectural interpretation and the context of a property’s documented past.

Julian holds a PhD in Anthropology from SOAS, University of London. His work includes a Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship at the National Library and the books Singapore Shophouse and Black and White: The Singapore House 1898–1941.

Heritage research is commissioned under a separately agreed scope. It adds context to a property; it does not replace commercial, legal or technical due diligence.

136 & 138 Neil Road

A completed S$40.88 million sale, co-brokered by Colliers and List Sotheby’s International Realty. Simon’s involvement with the property spans its 2011 sale, commissioned heritage research, restoration coordination and its latest divestment.

The property illustrates how acquisition, research, adaptive reuse, leasing and a future sale can form different chapters in one building’s life.
